March Wrap Up

Wait, where did March go?  This month flew by way to quick and I admit it wasn't a great month for me, I crashed a lot from my PCS therefore the lack of posts and I didn't get to read as many books as last month, but I did read a few.  Here is my wrap up:

First up, I FINALLY read The Fault In Our Stars and YES 5 out of 5 stars and YES I could read this book over and over again.  Fantastic book.

Next I read These Broken Stars and I admit that it started off a little slow but when it got good, it got GOOD.  4 out of 5 stars.

And because I need more Alien story I read Alienated and it was a pretty cute. 4 out of 5 stars.

I then NetGalley had The DUFF up to Read and I just grabbed and started reading right away.  It was an okay story.  I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars.

And the last book that I read was Wicked and I loved this one and cannot wait to read the next book in this Trilogy.  5 out of 5 stars.

I just started reading The Girl at Midnight, which I got it from NetGalley, a couple days ago and so far not bad, we will see where it will go.

And that will do it for March, what did you read this month?

Book Review: Entwined by Heather Dixon

Tuesday Book Review and today's book is:

Entwined by Heather Dixon

I gotta admit I fell in love with this book because of the cover, look at it; it's just Beautiful.  And then I heard it was a fairy tale retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses and of course I had to read it.  But let me tell you this book is a lot more than that.  Yes, there are princesses and dancing and magic and castle and princes but there is also mourning and family and did I say magic?  Yes, that was pretty cool.

Azalea is the oldest of 12 girls, all princess, she is just at age to attend balls and start getting court and getting to meet guys and pick her husband; who will become the next King and her the next Queen.  But the same night that Azalea attends her first ball, everything is taken from her as her mother dies and the mourning begins.  This book is set centuries ago, and mourning is nothing like it is now, curtains are closed shut, not visitors allowed, black clothes, you were not allowed to go outside at all unless it was to go to church and to visit the dead on Sunday, no music, no dancing in the house and no boys were allowed to court you, and all of that was for a whole entire year; no questions asked.

Azaela and her sisters shared a passion for dancing together with their mother and with her passing they were all devastated they couldn't dance anymore. However while Azaela was sad, she found a magic, secret passage that lead to a secret dancing ballroom with a very weird man (The Keeper) who promises her a safe place for her to come back every night with her sister so they can dance.  Azaela believes him and so she and her sisters start going every night to dance there, but what started as something innocent becomes something dangerous.

The Keeper has been kept prisoner within the walls of the castle for centuries and now he finds a way to get free, by making Azaela find magic objects to free him.

I loved that you don't only get to know Azaela, but every single one of her sisters, you really get to connect with all of them.  And her dad; the King?  OMG, you hate him at the beginning of the book, but as the book progresses you start to understand him and actually felt bad for him.  He truly loved the Queen, and you realized how hard it was to lose her and keep going; but I'm so happy that he did it at the end.

You get so much from this book, suffering, loss, regret, love, sister bonding, mourning, family, friendship, magic and so much more.  This is not a small book, it was about 500 pages, but once you start reading you just can't stop and when you reach the end you kind of want more.

Loved this book, 5 out of 5 stars for sure.

Nelia

Book Review: Broken Skies by Theresa Kay

Book Review Tuesday and today's book is:

Broken Skies by Theresa Kay

This is my first ever Alien book and I loved and I'm just going to jump into this spoiler free review before I just start blabbing non stop.

This book follows 17 year old Jax, who lives in a world where Aliens have come to earth and they are staying.  There aren't many humans around anymore, and the few that are around live together in small civilizations.  The E'rikon (Aliens) have remained segregated in their city and ignored the humans that is until now, that they have taken Jax's twin brother and left one of their own behind instead.

Jax takes the teenage E'rikon back to camp in secret because she forms an alliance with him to rescue her brother.  But of course nothing is as easy, the E'rikon gets discovered, Jax gets help from another girl from camp to get him and her out of there so she can go get her brother.  After a difficult night, she finally escapes camp and starts her plan to get to the city of E'rikon and rescue of brother.

But, Jax doesn't know the true motives of the teenage E'rikon and why he has agreed to help her, but she doesn't care, first she has to worry about saving her brother then she will worry about him.  However with days passing, and the dangerous that the face together, they both realize that they are equally affect by each other and a connection between them are formed.

Soon, they realize what each others true motives are and the consequences are not easy to take in and what started as an "easy" rescue mission turns out to be much more than they want.  Decisions that have to do with the Human and Alien race and Earth itself.

This book was such a quick read, but expect lots of action and to be fast passed.  I felt like I was on the edge of my seat a lot of the time.  And at the end?  I needed the second right away, but unfortunately it's not out yet and there isn't an out date yet WHY???

5 out of 5 stars for sure...Totally recommend this book.  If you have never read an Alien book, start with this book, you will love it.

XOXO,

Nelia

February Favorites

Really late on the game this time, but here are my February favorites:

Tarte Camera Lights Lashes Mascara:  loving how it makes my lashes super long.

Urban Decay Basics Palette: I have been in a lazy mood in the morning and this has been the only thing that I have been reaching for.

Tarte Princess Palette: have been using both the Bronzer and the Blush on this palette.

And that's about it...not such, but lazy mood, lots of snow days and that's what happens.

What have you been loving lately?

How wash your month of February?

Nelia

Weekend Reads: The DUFF & Alienated

I have finally got over my reading slump.  I went over a week without reading, well more like reading the same page over and over again for over a week.  But I'm over it and Thank God.

I've already finished one book this week and I'm almost done with another one too, so here is what I will be reading this weekend:

When NetGalley had The DUFF by Kody Keplinger to read I knew that I wanted to read it asap, but I also knew that I had to finish the book that I currently was reading and that my friends was the push that I needed to get me off my reading slump.  I'm 70% done with this book and I can't wait to finish it.

Next I want to pick up and read Alienated by Melissa Landers, I just finished reading These Broken Stars earlier this week and cannot get enough of space and Aliens so...that's the reason I need this book.

And that will do for this weekend!!!  Have a great weekend!

Nelia

Book Review: Branded by Abi Ketner and Misy Kaliciki

Book Review Tuesday: today's book?

Branded by Abi Ketner and Misy Kalicicki

Lexi has been punished, she is a sinner and her sin is Lust.  And every sinner is branded and wear their brand around their neck; so this way EVERYONE knows they have sinned.  After they been branded, sinners are taken to the Hole, a place where sinners are forced to live under the watch of guards who kill anyone of steps out of line.

Lexi is brought there and is guarded with a guard, who she is terrified of because of the stories she has heard about them.  Her cell, is nothing else but disgusting, a mattress on the floor, a shower and a toilet and a flickering light.  But she doesn't complaint, she is strong and she will not give up now, especially now that she has been accused of a crime that didn't committed.

Cole, he is Lexi's guard and you will just fall in love with him from the beginning.  He tries to be this macho, mean guy but he just cannot be nothing more than this protective person.  He soon realizes what the Hole truly is and what Lexi truly is and the injustice that she is going through.

So many things happens in this book, that are spoilers and best if you go into it not knowing about them, actually is best you not knowing about much a all.  You will fall in love with Lexi and Cole.  There are lots of twists in this book, some of them I kind of saw it coming but others? Holly Molly, totally didn't see THAT coming, so Thank You to the authors for those, love it.

The second book is coming out in a few weeks and I cannot wait to read, hoping that it as fast paced as this one and that it has as much as action as Branded did.

5 out of 5 stars for sure.

Have you read Branded?  No, what are you waiting for?  GO read it.

XOXO,

Nelia
