Book Review-We are the Goldens by Dana Reinhardt

After reading so many dystopian books lately I was in need ready for a light read and this totally did it for me.  I was done with this book in a couple days, I could have finished in one sitting if I didn't have to work and run errands (you know life stuff, the ones you don't want to do but HAVE to, ok I'll stop complaining for now lol).

The story is told by Nell, your typical high school freshman who has an older sister who she is extremely close to, they have always done everything together.  But Nell finds out Layla's dangerous secret and their relationship starts to get complicated.

She tells the story from the beginning, from when they started growing apart to finding out about the secret and to where/what she had to do about that secret.

There were parts that I was a little mad a Nell, she should have been too close to her sister, but by reading on her point of view you totally got it, she explain it exactly why she made the decisions that she did.  You can totally relate to Nell, just thing back when you started high school, didn't you wish you had an older sibling there to help you through it?  And now imaging that sibling just not been there for you.

She tells you when things started to change and you get to see how she pieced things together until she comes up with her final decision about what to do about the secret.

And do you want to know what the secret is? Well, well know you just have to read the book to find out.  This book is out May 27th and if you need a quick light, contemporary book for this spring/summer you need to pick this book up. I recommend it and give it a 3.8 stars

I got an advanced copy of We are the Goldens by Dana Reinhardt through NetGalley...

Book Review-The Maze Runner Trilogy

Book Review Time, today I'll be reviewing The Maze Runner Trilogy.  I am going to be honest, I was really excited to read this trilogy and I may have set my expectations a little to high and therefore I was a little disappoint with these books.  There were good books but I just was expecting more...but let's get to it:

The Maze Runner: Thomas wakes up in a box with a lot of boys around him, he doesn't remember anything about his life besides his name.  The boys welcome Thomas to the Glade, they are known as the Gladers.  They show Thomas around the Glade, telling him the jobs they do including going out into the maze to see if they find out how to get out of there.  They too don't know anything about themselves besides their first names, they only one that once a month a new boy comes, but the things are going to change especially when the next day a girl shows up in the box with a message that threatens everything.
It was a good read, it did take me a little bit of time to get into the book and once I did I enjoyed.  And the last few chapters was what really got me enjoying it a lot, when the Gladers are ready to escape the Glade and the Maze.  It was a great finishing for a first book in a trilogy.

The Scorch Trials: The second book picks up right away where the first book ended.  The Gladers are out of the Maze/Glade but things are not what they seem.  Things are not over for them yet, they are now faced with another challenge in order to be "free", they have to go open rounds of the destroyed planets in order to get to the Cure.  We get to know WICKED more and I really hate those peoples...I know it's just a book but, come on, they were cruel.  There are a lot more action in the book and poor Thomas, I felt bad for the kid and all of they too.  I really liked Minho, he wasn't afraid to take charge and lead everyone.  After I finished this book I was ready to read the 3rd, it was a great read this one.

The Death Cure: Thomas, how many times can WICKED play with all those kids.  They survived the Scorch Trials and now they are at WICKED, where they tell them that all the lies are over, they will be able to restore their memories and be done with.  But what they don't know is that Thomas remembers a lot more than they think and he will not allow them to touch him again, will not allow them to play with his brain again.  And he is not alone, Minho and Newt and they together plan an escape.  However they are not the only ones planning to escape so they adventure begins once again.
This book was a page turner one and I just couldn't put it down, it was full of action (my favorite in any books) and the end, OMG, I cannot believe it, totally not what I was expecting.  Overall it was a great book, this trilogy started slow but it picked up in the 2nd and 3rd book.  I loved how we got to meet more characters and see some old ones too.

Rating time, I give it a 3.8 (can I give that?).  Overall it was a good reading and I do recommend.

Book Review-Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series Books 1-5

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series, where have I been all this time.  This was an amazing series and very easy to read and a fast read, I think I finished the 5 books in less than 2 weeks. Let's get to the reviews:

Book 1: The Lightning Thief-In this first book we get to know Percy and he is such a funny and likable kid.  He is described as a regular kid, with difficulty to learn and nothing goes right with him.  One of the things that I like most was the fast paced, lots of action.
Percy found out that is father is a god, Poseidon to be exact.  He also finds out that the gods are mad as someone stole Zeus lightning bolt.  Percy goes to the demi gods camp and goes on his first quest, looking for the lightning bolt.  At the quest lots of difficulties happen, it is lots of stuff happening all the time which keeps you hooked to the book.

Book 2: The Sea of Monsters-Magical walls at demi god camp is poised and they need to find a solution to save the magical walls and Thalia's tree.  Annabeth gets the quest this time and off they go to the sea of monsters, looking for the Golden fleece the only way to save the camp and saving Percy's best friend Grover, who is kidnapped by the Cyclops Pholyphenus..  On this book Percy also gets to meet his cyclop half-brother.  And we get to find out a little more about Kronos' plan.  In this book we get to know Percy more on a personal level.  And of course lots of action...

Book 3: The Titan's Curse-Goddess Artemis goes missing and Percy and his friends have to find out what happened and find her before the winter solstice as her vote is an important one on the war with the titans.  This book was so good, we get to meet more gods...

Book 4: The Battle of the Labyrinth-I think this may have been one of my favorite in this series.  The time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near.  Percy and his friends go on a quest through the Laryrinth-an underground world with so many surprises at every turn.  It is one of their most thrilling quest.

Book 5: The Last Olympian-Final book and OMG, so many things happen at once that you cannot but this book down until you finish this book.  There is the war, I really cannot give nothing out on this book, you need to READ it.

Great series, if you are 10 or 40 you will enjoy it.  So go READ...I totally recommend this.

March Wrap up

My very first book wrap up, March was a great month for reading books.  The weather in New England was just...what can I say, winter? It was cold, Spring came and the good weather didn't.  Come on, I need sunshine NOW.
Well, let's get back to the point.  I read a lot, I mean a LOT, I didn't realize how much I read until I just saw my list.  Let's start this list:

Richelle Mead:
Bloodlines-The Indigo Spell, it's the 3rd in this series. I really like this book, we got to really get to  know Sydney in this book.

Bloodlines-The Fiery Heart, 4th book of Bloodlines.  I LOVE this book, I cannot, I mean, cannot wait for 5th book to come out this summer.  CANNOT wait.

Kiera Cass
The Selection, it's the first book in this series.  It does start off a little slow, but trust me, once it starts getting good you don't want to put this book down.  Love it.

The Elite, book 2 of The Selection Trilogy.  Really, really good book, I was happy reading it, I was angry at time, so many emotions.  3rd book is coming out in May and I cannot wait for it.  I hate waiting for the new books to come out.

Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series, I read all 5 books in about 2 weeks.  Where have I been all this time.  Well, I really didn't think I would like these books, that it was really for 8-10 year old, but I was wrong and I'm so glad that I pick it up and read them.  The 5 books are: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian.  Totally worth reading...

And the last book was by James Dashner, The Maze Runner.  I'm not sure about it, I had so many mixed feelings about this book.  I'm finishing up book 2 probably today and I am enjoying a little more.

That's it, 10 books in total, CRAZY.  But that' what happens when you are reading series and they are SO good.  I recommend all the books above, even the mixed feelings ones lol

XOXO,

Nelia
