Book Review: Forever Doon by Carey Corp, Lorie Langdon

Confession time; the year is more than half way done and I'm doing horribly with finishing series.  Who's also with me?  I'm doing amazingly well starting new series and more amazingly well reading new books coming out this year! :)  Can't really blame me, I feel like 2018 there are even more amazing books coming out than last year, if that's even possible lol.

But, coming back to today's post; I'm reviewing the last book of the Doon series, so one done!!!  Let's get to it?  Let's do it.

Forever Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

From GoodReads:
With the witch of Doon on the thron, Jamie believed dead, and Duncan and Mackenna trapped in Alloway, Veronica has no choice but to put her grief aside and prepare her remaining followers for the impending battle against the false queen and her forces.  But while on covert mission to steal a powerful elixir from the castle, Veronica discovers may actually be alive, and fighting a battle of his own.  With the Bri O'Doon destroyed and the portal fragmented, Doon's forces are not only divided, but also isolated in different dimensions.  With the help of a storyteller as ancient as the witch herself, Kenna and Duncan learn they must rebuild the bridge to have any chance of crossing back to Doon with their ragtag army.  But when Mackenna insists on fighting as well, Duncan soon realizes the only way he can ensure her safety is to turn her into a cold-hearted killer.  For Vee, Jamie, Kenna and Duncan, saving their kingdom while keeping their lives intact will take a miracle.

This book was everything you wanted on a series final book, it had adventure, so much action, dangerous to our must loved characters, love and a great ending.  Duncan and Kenna were the couple that we always loved, fighting with each other but loving each other until the very ending.  When Kenna wanted to learn how to fight so she could be part of the same army that would defend Doon, Duncan couldn't come to terms for a long time, until Kenna started training with others and Duncan couldn't take it anymore.  If she was going to train and fight, minus well she was going to do it the right way and the only person the train her the right way, was him.  So, he trained her and both fought together on the fight of their lives, each having their backs.  It was so cute and amazing and fierce!!!
Vee and Jamie?  Ah, those two were soulmates before they even realized and no matter what dangerous they were in, they felt each others pains and fought to get together again.  And once together?  They fought for their people and for Doon...
I loved this cute and corny series and would reread it again again.  I got an eARC from Netgalley for this one!

5 out of 5 stars, loved it.

XOXO,

Book Review: All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai

I don't have much to say besides let's get to the review because I'm still confused and not so sure about this one...

All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai

From GoodReads:
You know the future that people in the 1950s imagined we'd have? Well, it happened.  In Tom Barren's 2016, humanity thrives in techno-utopian paradise of flying cars, moving sidewalks, and moon bases, where avocados never go bad and punk rock never existed...because it wasn't necessary.  Except Tom just can't seem to find his place in this dazzling, idealistic world, and that's before his life gets turned upside down.  Utterly blindsided by and accident of fate, Tom makes a rash decision that drastically changes not only his own life but the very fabric of the universe itself.  In a time-travel mishap, Tom finds himself stranded in our 2016, what we think of as the real world.  For Tom, our normal reality seems like a dystopian wasteland.  But when he discovers wonderfully unexpected versions of his family, his career, and-maybe, just maybe-his soulmate, Tom as a decision to make.  Does he fix existence, or does he try to forge a new life in our messy, unpredictable reality?  Tom's search for the answer takes him across countries, continents, and timelines in a quest to figure out, finally, who he really is and what his future-our future-is supposed to be.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I read the synopsis of this book I was all over it, time travel? Heck yes.  Someone screwing up our timeline and trying to fix it?  Double heck yes!  But, the more I read this book the more bored and disappointed I was with it.  Tom as a character was boring, the more I read about him the more I didn't want to know about him.  He had zero character development.  From the beginning he was screwing up his life and I'm okay with that, I read tons of books and lots of characters start like that, but he just kept screwing things up more and more and more until the very end.  He is the POV of this book and I didn't connect with him, so...that ruined the whole book for me.
Without trying to ruin and not spoil the book for anyone that wants to read the book, Tom lives in a 2016 that is all techno-utopian paradise, I mean you don't have to worry about a thing on this world, not even food.  But Tom?  He somehow isn't happy and he somehow isn't happy and doesn't find himself at all and just knows how to screw everything up.  He ends up on a time travel assignment that brings him to where it all started and guess what?  Yep, he screws up the whole world by going back.  By the time he comes back to 2016, the world is not the same, but somehow is life is amazing, he has the perfect life that he has always dreamed of, the perfect soulmate and everything.  But he starts to question if he needs to go back in time to fix the future again or leave it the way is  What does he do?  Well, you will have to read it do find out.

What rating did I give this book?  3 stars, I enjoyed the science part of it but that's about it.  Still disappointed it about it.  I wanted more out of it...I did received an eARC from Netgalley.

XOXO,

Nelia

Book Review: The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken

Well, it sure has been a while since I have done a book review and I cannot believe that I didn't do one for this book.  Actually, it was half way done as I just found it, so it's time to finish it and put it up, right?  Let's do this.

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken

33785202

Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history — that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper's great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made — and then broke — a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, four-thousand-year-old Alastor isn't exactly the forgiving type.

The fiend has reawakened with one purpose — to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his future without a side of eternal servitude, thanks.

Little does Prosper know, the malefactor's control over his body grows stronger with each passing night, and there's a lot Alastor isn't telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host.

From #1 New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a tale of betrayal and revenge, of old hurts passed down from generation to generation. Can you ever fully right a wrong, ever truly escape your history? Or will Prosper and Alastor be doomed to repeat it?

------------------------------------------------------------

Have I mentioned that I live in MA, OH Yes, so imagine how excited I was when I was reading this book and found out it was taking place in Salem, MA?  AH, so cool and exciting!!!!  Anyways...back to the review.

So, Prosper (what a name lol), poor kid, imagine growing up with that name and now imagine growing up with the kind of family Prosper grew up with?  Prosper lives in a town that his family owns it and because of it he has to live it to it's rules all the time, rules that his grandmother makes sure everyone follows.  But things go all wrong when Prosper discovers a four thousand year old demon living inside of him.   Poor Prosper ends up finding out that a curse has been on his family for many, many years because of his great, great, great, great, great, grandfather made a contract (and broke it) with the same demon that is living on him.  And now the demon has reawaken for one purpose only, to destroy the family that betrayed him.

Prosper has days to break the curse but things are not so easy and he needs more help than he thought he needed.  Get ready for a little adventure with Prosper and lots of twists and turns and a great ending that will leave you craving for the next book like crazy.

5 out of 5 stars :)  I'm dying to read the next book...
