Book Review: The Flame and the Arrow by Emigh Cannaday

Guess what I'm back with?  If you said another book review, you are absolutely right, let's do this?  Okay, let's do it:

The Flame and the Arrow by Emigh Cannaday

Annika Brisby thinks she knows where her life is going until she steps through a broken portal that leaves her stranded in a realm of fairies, vampires, and other mythical beings.  Unable to return until it's repaired, she's rescued by wood nymphs who believe her sudden arrival is no accident.  After being taken in by a family of elves, Annika finds herself unable resist the seductive spell of their youngest son, Talvi.  He might be the perfect distraction for her homesickness.  Her friends warn her that she'll probably regret laying eyes on him, but what began as a casual fling quickly burn too hot to handle.  On the journey home she discovers that there's a mountain of secrets that he's not telling her, and Annika can't help wondering who's really in danger.

This book had so many promises and don't get me wrong I did enjoy reading it most of the time, but I felt that it was dragged out too long?  While Annika was stranded and trying to get back it was a little bit boring at times and it felt like nothing was happening until the action actually happened.  But when there were things happening the book was interesting and I did enjoyed it.

I never take too long reading a book but I took me forever to finish this one and I wish it didn't it. The end of the book was great and it kind of left me wanting to read the next one but at the same time I'm afraid that the next book is the same thing as the first and I will just not read it.   Let me know if you have read the next one and tell me if I should continue with this series.

I ended up giving this book 3.5 stars out of 5.

Book Review: The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald

2016 has been a really great reading year, and one of my goals was to read more classics and I have been doing good, not great or amazing on that department but good.  And the book that I'm review next is a classic, one that I knew for sure that I was going to read and it was a small book so I knew that I was going to read this one and I'm glad that I did.  I didn't even remember reading this one at school, did I read it?  I have no idea, so I am really glad that I read it and know The Great Gatsby story, so let's get to it:


The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Jay Gatsby was a self-made millionaire who gave wild and lavish parties and those parties was attended by strangers.  And he was in love with the golden girl of a gilded era.

She was Daisy Buchanan, a young rich beauty with bright eyes and a passionate mouth.

But she was already married, even though her husband wasn't the most trustful one either.

In this novel set in the Twenties you will learn how the riches lived, how love was during that time and how marriage life was too.  How different everything was and how money played a roll on everything.

Gatsby was a man loved by many because of his lavish parties but when the main event happened?  You will then understand that how alone you can be at the end too.

The story is not told by Gatsby's perspective, it's actually told by Daisy's cousin's perspective and I it was really interesting at first but then you start to understand why it was told by him, you got to see how everyone around him acts.

I gave this book a 3.75 stars out of 5, I liked it and enjoyed reading but I admit there were some times that I just wanted it to finish it and see what the point of the whole book was about it.  But once we got there it was good.

Do I recommend it?  Of course, everyone should read it.

Book Review: Finding Kyler by Siobhan Davis

Holly Crap!!! Yes, that's how I'm going to start this post, because this book is like nothing you have read, yes it sounds and while you are reading will start to look like your typical YA romance book but the twists and turns that Siobhan throws at you?  Yes, there is nothing like a Siobhan twist...let's jump at the review:

Finding Kyler by Siobhan Davis

Faye Donovan is alone in the world, she has just lost both her parents in a tragic accident.  But life just keeps playing tricks with her because out of nowhere an unknown uncle surfaces as her new guardian.  He shows up at her home in Ireland to pick her up and bring her all the way to the United States, away from everything she has known her whole life.

She isn't too happy but then again she doesn't have a choice as she is under age and she has to go with her new uncle and follow him to America, she decides to do it as her eighteen birthday is only a few months away.  Soon, Faye finds out that her Uncle is very, very wealthy and married to a fashion-empire-owing wife and they have more money than anyone should have.  Something else that they have more than enough is kids, seven in total and all boys and soon after meeting all of them Faye finds out that all seven are kind of screwed up on their own and things kind of turn into a nightmare.

The worst nightmare is when certain inappropriate feelings arise between Faye and Kyler Kennedy, her cousin.  He is off limits, for SURE.  And he is not the most friendly and welcoming of them all. Kyler is ignorant, moody and cruel at times, but for some reason, Faye starts to fee behind the mask he wears and they kind of start to get each other.

Kyler in the other hand has sworn off girls, he doesn't want to get involved with them.  But Faye starts to get under his skin, the more he pushes her away the more he wants her.

 Together they decide to keep their feelings a secret, but a secret is dangerous, very, very dangerous.  Especially when other people have secrets of their own.

Screwed up family?  Let's talk about how screwed up this family really is, Faye's uncle for me is the most screwed up of them all and his marriage together with it.  The brothers?  Each of them have something going on and OH Man, six times screw ups (not counting Kyler) every time I though, Oh this one is not that bad, something about that one would appear. WHAT?  I just want to grab this whole family and rehabilitate it myself, they all need help, really bad.  Wait, I don't think I can do it, they all past the help.  Wait, I don't think I would mind rehabilitating some of the brothers, they are pretty hot lol.  Okay, back to some serious stuff, they all need help and hopefully we will get to see them getting some.

The end of the book, the twist was a freaking bomb that I wasn't not expecting and I really am hopping that it isn't true.  I have come up with a million different scenarios for it to not be real.  This is killing ME.

Seriously, if you love romance and drama, lots of it, them this book is definitively for you.

4.5 out of 5 stars.  Can't wait for the next one.

Book Review: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

Oh, I'm sooo excited to review this next book, I had heard lots of good things about it and I went into it not expecting much because usually that's how I like to go into books that have been getting lots of hype.  But this one?  It totally blew my mind, I loved it so much that I went out and bought the physical copy of it and the second book too!!!!

Okay, let's get to the review:

The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

So, this book is based on the A Thousand and One Nights and that is one of the things that intrigued me but once I started reading what intrigued me more was Renee's writing style.  She writes beautifully and knows how to make you love these characters and she just knows how to describe a world where you actually can visualize and want to live in.  And the characters?  Oh boy, can she describe them and make you love them so much.

Shahrzard...WOW,  She is everything you want in a main character and more.  She takes risks that not even me would, that's for sure. She fights for her family and friends and she believes that she can change even the most hated man in her country.  Every time she was togethe rwith Khalid my heart would be jumping because I never knew what would come out of it, would he try to kill her?  Would he give him to her? Suspense, my friends, always suspense with these two.

Khalid, monster?  Cold heart murder?  Or is there something else?  Just let your heart open for him, trust me and you will not regret.  Maybe I do have something for bad boys, because I was rooting for Khalid since the beginning, I knew that his previous wives died but I also knew there was something else behind it.  And was I right?  You just have to read it to find out.  But I have to say that I really fell in love with his character, yes it may take you a little bit of time but give him a chance. :)

Side characters?   There are quite a few, but I'm not going to mention them because I feel that it will ruin the book, so get into to the blind as I did and find out for yourself and see if you like her maid, or Khalid's cousin, or Shahrzard's childhood friend.  These are some of the characters we were introduced.  And they do play a huge part in the books.

My rating?  5 out of 5 stars of course, I loved, loved this book.  I don't re read books, but this one would be one of the few that I would re read for sure :)

Weekend Read: The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows

Happy Friday!!! It's a week before ThanksGiving, are you ready for it?  I'm so NOT ready, guess what I will be doing this weekend? Getting ready, shopping for food and lots of dessert stuff and doing lots of preparations.  But I also want to read and finish my current read and start my next book, here is my current read:

Book Review: Dirty Aristocrat by Georgia Le Carre

Okay, this review is a genre that I don't reach for it that often but when I do? I want something done right, do you know what I mean?  And this book was done really, really well...the story sucked me in and yes there is sexy time and the main man is freaking hot (holly hot tamales lol) but what I liked about the book is that it had a story to tell and that kind of book is what I like.  Let's get to the review:

Dirty Aristocrat by Georgia Le Carre

Lord Ivan de Greystoke is a bad boy in every single way.  He has set his eyes on Tawny St John, the one woman who stirs possessiveness and desire in him.

She is nineteen, blonde, beautiful and married to Robert Maxwell.  Which makes her a gold digger and his freaking stepmother.  She has been totally unavailable to him, that is until now.

The old man is dead, she is the heir of a hundred million fortune, and Ivan is the executor of her trust.  But things are not as easy as it sounds.  All his stepsisters and stepbrothers feel robbed and are of opinion that Tawny should join her late husband asap.  At first he has no clue what to do, but then he comes up with the perfect solution, a fake marriage...to him.

Tawny doesn't know what to make of anything and anyone.  Everyone thinks she is a gold digger, even Ivan, the one man she cannot stop think about it.  But they don't know the whole story.

Tawny has a secret, it is a huge, huge secret, one that will blow their minds if they ever found out, but she isn't telling...never.

OMG, this book, it will engage you from the beginning.  First of all, you want to find out what Tawny's secret is and then you want her to tell Ivan the secret because you want them to be together.  But then you don't know if Tawny should trust Ivan, because you are not even sure is Ivan is to be trusted.  AH, this book had so many twists and turns but it was sooo good.  I wanted it to end but at the same it I didn't.  I really, really enjoyed.  Be prepared because there is lots of spice in it, Ivan is hot and he loves sex and he isn't afraid of showing it.  Tawny?  Poor Tawny, she has lots of learn...

Totally recommend this book, final words?  I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Destined for Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

Time for another book review, this is book 2 in the Doon series and here is book 1 review: Doon.  And without further doon, let's jump right into book two review:

Destined for Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

Mackenna Reid, stars to realize that she made a big mistake in choosing to follow her dreams of Broadway instead of staying in the enchanted land of Doon.  And to make matters worse, she's received her Calling, proof she and Duncan are each other's true love.  Now she is going crazy, especially every time she has a vision of the Scottish prince and the worse is when she has the visions right before she goes on stage.

So, when Duncan shows up right before her again she doesn't believe it at first but this time he is really there and the reason he is there isn't good.  Duncan tells her an ancient curse threatens to overtake Doon and the new Queen needs her to return and Kenna doesn't have to think twice about going back to Doon.

Kenna and Vee are together in Doon and they must battle a world of nightmares in order to protect the kingdom.  But Kenna will be the one who will have the ultimate test to salvage her happily ever after.

These books remind me of The Selection, they are cheezy and another guilty pleasure, because they are fun to read.  And I really love the romance between Kenna and Duncan, they are my favorite couple :)  Vee has a lot going on in this book with the Kingdom and by the end of the book when you thought everything is taken care of?  There is another twist and a cliffhanger, Oh My...I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens next.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars and I really recommend it if you are looking for a light read, one with lots of laugh, romance and Scottish boys :)

Book Review: Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass

Who's read The Selection series?  I know a lot people either hate or love this series and I?  I love it, I feel like this series was my guilty pleasure.  And I usually read these books in a day or two so it really didn't take much from my reading time.

Anyways, once I was done reading The Crown, I went back to GoodReads and see if I was done reading all the Novellas and Happily Ever After is the bundle of all the Novellas for The Selection series, so I went to my eLibrary and put a hold on it, it was easier to get through this one because I had read most of the Novellas and I really wanted to read the bonus scenes, Bonus Epilogue and a Where are they now? in the back of the book and I wanted that instead of reading the only Novella that I was missing so...

But I will leave you the link with my reviews for the Novellas that I had read and reviewed already.  Let's do this:


Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass

The Prince and The Guard: I had read these ones a while back so feel free to read the reviews, they are together with the review for The One.

The Queen: Review is done alone for this one; I don't know, maybe because I really loved this one a lot.

The Favorite: This is the Novella that I still hadn't read and the reason that I wanted to read this bundle.  This is Marlee's novella, this novella is when Marlee falls in love with Carter and they are caught and punished for it.  But in this novella we get to see how Marlee and Carter suffer after the punishment and how these two stick to each other and support each other even though they are in so much pain.  And we also get to see how Prince Maxon helped them.  It was what I wanted so 5 out of 5 stars.

Three scenes from Celeste's POV: This totally surprised me, don't get me wrong, I didn't fall head over heels for Celeste but it let us see another side of her and she wasn't a total, total b.tch.  I liked this one, 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Lucy's scene (bonus scene): This scene is from Lucy's POV, America's maid, I just want to say I that I would have lived without this one. 2 out of 5 stars.

The bonus epilogue: Not going to say anything about it but it was okay I guess, I  really enjoyed read it 4 out of 5 stars.

Where are they now?  I think this part was one of the most fun things to read in this book.  We got to see where all the other girls are now and doing with their lives. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Can we mention that there is a map and some illustrations in this book also?  So cool!!!

I gave the book a 5 out of 5 stars and that's because I loved The Prince, The Queen and The Favorite novellas and that's the majority of them.

Weekend Reads: Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Book Review: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

Let's start by talking about book hangovers, who has had them?  I usually don't have them, and if I have one it's usually gone in a day as I have really great books to read next but this book? OMG, I can close my eyes and get that book hangover ALL OVER AGAIN.  This is for sure one of my favorite books of 2016 and probably of many people too.  I cannot wait for the next book to come out, MAY 2017?  That's way too far out and can we please get a cover already, I need a cover reveal now, right now, okay...maybe not now but maybe this year still? Pretty Please????

If don't know what book I'm talking about?  It's the second book in A Court of Thorns and Roses, I really enjoyed the first book a lot, and I knew that I was going to read the second one once it came out.  But...OH MAN, this book was 1MILLION times better than I thought it was going to be.  Alright, let's get to the review and if you haven't read the first one (click above to read the review) this review will contain spoilers so don't read it and spoil yourself, just read the first book first.


A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Feyre survived Amarantha and she has returned to the Spring Court, but at a steep cost.  Though she has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it cannot forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court.

As Feyre navigates through dard politics, passion and power, a greater evil looms and she might be the key to stop it all.  But only if can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her soul and decide how she wishes to shape her future-and the future of a world torn apart.

Feyre...OH Feyre, when the book started she was so broken that I didn't think she was going to be able to bounce back, but she bounced back and way stronger than she was before.  Someone not only strong but someone that they should be afraid of, I cannot wait to see more of Feyre, she is going to be so badass in the next book, I can see already.

Rhysand...well, well, well, where I can start?  I going to star to say he is hot and dangerous and everything you want, am I right?  But he has another side that only Feyre was able to see and I love him more because of that.  Rhys

Tamlin...I don't want to talk about him, because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but I will just say, go in with an open mind.  Broken heart...

So many side characters was introduced in this book and can I say that I loved them?  Feyre need a girl friend and she has it now.  LOVE IT.  And the others?  I'm just going to say, I love all of them :)  Well, let me rephrase that, I love all the side characters at The Night Court, there, that's better :)

So, to end this crazy review, I'm just going to say it was 5 out of 5 stars and it was an amazing review and I cannot recommend this series but especially this book enough.  SO, go read it, NOW.

Book Review: The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski

Have you started reading The Winner's Trilogy yet?  If you haven't, OH My, you are missing out on one of the best trilogies written yet.  Let's start by saying that it's Unique, because there really isn't another like it out there.  The romance?  OMG, yeah it's totally unique too and you will see yourself falling for the characters like nothing before.  The world?  Amazing.  And the characters?  You finish the book and you start to crave more for them all over again.  I haven't sold you yet?  Here, read my review on the first book: The Winner's Curse and then after you read that one or if you have read that one you can read my review on the second book The Winner's Crime.  And of course if you have read both of them and are here to read the third book's review, I'm going to shut up and get to it :)

The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski

With the Empire as Arin's enemy, he has made allies with some untrustworthy new people but he will do anything to win this War that has already begun.  And he also has convinced himself that he no longer loves Kestrel but at the same time he just cannot forget her.  He just doesn't understand how she cared more for the Empire than she did for the lives of innocent people and most importantly than she did for him.

Well, at least that's what he thought...

In the north, Kestrel is a prisoner in a brutal work camp.  She tries every day for a way to escape and she wishes that Arin would know what she sacrificed for him.  And more than anything she wishes she could make the Empire pay for what they have done to her.

But no one gets what they want just because they wish for, right?  Or maybe they do?

The war intensifies and both Kestrel and Arin discover that the world is changing, one side is against the other and they are both caught in between.  With so much to lose can anybody really win?

Will Kestrel escape the work camp?  What about the war?  Who will win?  Will Arin find out what Kestrel did for him and forgive her finally?

This book was everything you wanted in a final book and more.  I loved, loved and loved this book.  You got action from the war.  You got to see how the relationship between Arin and Kestrel resolved and I'm not going to say anything more about it because there was so much development in that department that you really need to read the book.  And I loved so many of the side characters in this book, they are amazing in their own way, but they also made the book too.

5 out of 5 stars for sure.  I wouldn't mind if Marie Rutkoski made these books into a series instead of a trilogy, because you easily could have done it, because of the political and war issues that happened...but she sure knew how to end it well in just three books, well done.  I'm sure going to miss these characters and I really do see myself re reading these books again in the future.

TOTALLY recommend this trilogy.

Book Review: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

I guess Summer 2016 was a Morgan Matson summer, but who is complaining?  Not me and if you haven't started reading one of her books, trust me you are the one who is losing on some great friendship and romance books.  So, don't wait, go and start reading her books!!!

And here is a review for one of her books, this one was her newest book out but still amazing, let's do this:

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Andie has her summer all planned out, she is a politician's daughter and she pretty has much raised herself and she has since learned that everything can be planned or spun or both.  Especially your future.

What has Andie planned for her summer: internship? Check.  Amazing friends? Check. Guys? Check, as long as they don't last more than three weeks.

But then the scandal happened and her plans start to fall apart.  Her internship gets cancelled and now she finds herself in the same house with her dad, something that she is not used to it.  She has to get out of the house so she finds a summer job walking dogs, literally.  And then she meets Clark and her life changed.

Soon, Andie finds herself living a completed different summer than she planned, an unexpected summer of everything that she planned but she starts to realized that everything happens for a reason.

I have to admit, Andie?  It took me a little bit of time to warm up to her, but eventually you do and then there is the friendships and the family life that Morgan Matson just knows how to write and get you to love it.  You have to realize this book was over 500 pages and yes there was some times in the book that was a little slow but overall?  It was still great and I really enjoying it and gave it a 4 out of 5 stars and do I recommend it?  Yes, totally.

Weekend Reads: Sapphire Blue and Watchmen

What a crazy week this was and crazy weekend ahead too :)  What do you guys have planned?  I have lots of errands tomorrow, including picking up our boat to storage for the winter (boo) and then more errands with the kids Sunday, but I also plan to do lots of reading when I can, that's for sure :)

I finished City of Lost Souls last night and I wasn't sure what to read next but deep down I knew, I just knew that I had to read this book next.  I haven't stopped thinking about this world and characters since I finished read Ruby Red.


And just because I know that I will finish Sapphire Blue pretty damn quick, I'm going to finish reading:

Watchmen by Alan Moore

I'm almost half way already so that should be a quick read too.

November 2016 TBR

Hello November and the start of Holidays!!! Who celebrates Thanksgiving?  And if you do then you celebrate Black Friday too, right?  Are you excited for the sales that are coming?  I'm so looking forward to the Book Outlet sale on Black Friday, Oh I know that I don't need any more books but I'm not going to resist that sale and I will be buying lots of books :)  Who's with me?

Another thing that I will be doing is reading lots of books this month, I'm so close to my 100 book challenge reading in GoodReads that I think that I may reach it this month, but we will see, no promises...as we never know what can happen, right?  But without further do, here are some of the books that I'm planning on reading this month:

November TBR

1. Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch: Last book in this trilogy and I CANNOT wait to see how it all ends.

2. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini: Another classic, my goal this year was to read more classics and I did pretty good and I cannot wait to read this one!

3. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys: I have had this book since it came out and I have heard nothing but amazing things so I'm not waiting any longer, I'm reading it this month.

4. Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray: I should have read the third book already, I loved the first one and I know that I'm going to love this one too.  Can't wait to see what is going on with these characters.

5. The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows: Second and final book...but I still have to read the novellas for this duology but I'm going to read this one and then read the novellas.

6. Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier: I'm so ready to dive in to this one, I seriously cannot wait do to it :) Loved and I mean LOVED the first book.

7. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare: I only have 100 pages left of this bad boy and I'm almost 100% sure that I'll finish it today! FINALLY.

Book Review: Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

Okay, let me take a deep breath...alright, I think I'm ready now to review this book.  Why the deep breath?  Because this book broke my heart but it also became one of my favorites of this year for sure.  I love it, Morgan Matson has become one of my favorite authors for sure...let's review it.


Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

Taylor Edward's family is not the closest family around-everyone is a little too busy and overschedule- but for the most part, they all get along just fine.  But then Taylor's dad gets devastating news and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

When they get to the lake house and realize how small and rustic everything is there, they begin to get to know each other all over again.  And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven't actually gone anywhere.  Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend...and he is way much cuter now than he was back then when he was twelve years old.

As the summer progresses the Edwards become more of family, but they also realize that they are on a ticking clock.  Sometimes, there is just enough times for second chances with family, friends and love.

This book, I don't know where to start...with the happy stuff?  Taylor finding her old best friend and mending that friendship?  Yeah...don't think it was easy but it was nice to see Taylor getting to mend that and getting a second chance with her old best friend and sometimes you lose friends when you shouldn't.

Love,  Taylor and finding her first love and reconnecting with him?  That was everything and more and the way he supported her?  Their relationship was more than love, it was friendship, love and everything in between, perfect.

Family...family isn't easy and we get busy sometimes and when we get busy we just fall apart just like the Edwards.  Seeing all the kids reconnect and support each other?  That's what brother and sisters are for...Her mom?  She was amazing and so easy going and and and...I feel for her still.  But her dad?  You need to read to find out about him, but I'm going to say something, he is a rock star...

I have favorite scenes from this book engraved on my mind...especially the night of the falling stars (I can still remember all about it and cry about it too, thank you Morgan Matson).  I hadn't cried with a book in a while and OH Man, this book made me cry so much, like ugly cry so Morgan you did an amazing job just for making me cry.

I just have one more thing to say: 5 out of 5 stars!!!!

October 2016 Wrap Up

October is OVER, yeah I can't believe it either but I guess we don't have a choice but to over on, right?  It's November and Thanksgiving is around the corner and then it will be Christmas, I'm so NOT ready for the holidays.  Are you?

But back to today's post and what I read in October, it was a good month so let's do this:

Okay, I know that I didn't read 10 or more books, I didn't even finish reading COLS, but I read some amazing books this month.  My favorite?  Ruby Red for sure, I don't know why I didn't start this trilogy earlier, it is so amazing and the time travel part of it?  My favorite, AH I want to go back in time, this book is done so amazingly well.  I cannot wait to continue to read it the rest of the books.

I participated on my first Beta Read and it was more than I expected and I just loved it :)  A special Thank You to the author Siobhan Davis and if you guys loved the Series Paper Princess, just wait for Finding Kyler, it's that and way more spontaneous and cruel and dangerous and so MANY feelings, you are going to love it.

Can we talk about TMI books, I love reading them and love the story but I feel like when I'm reading I just take forever reading them, I usually read a book in a couple days but TMI?  I think I'm going on my 4 or 5 day already, I just need to finish this one already.  COLS is good, way better than the previous one but there are some parts that are slow at times, but I will get to it more on my review. 

Overall a good month, I read 9.5 books and I can't wait for November, I have some more amazing books to read!!!!
