The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel

Let's do another Book Review Tuesday and I'm so excited for today's book review, I loved, loved, loved this book.  Okay...I'm going to stop and just get to it; but one more time: I LOVE IT.

The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel

The Book of Ivy (The Book of Ivy, #1)

After a brutal nuclear war, the US was left decimated and a small group of survivors have banded together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new nation.  The Westfalls lost and the Lattimers won.  Fifty years later and peace and control are maintained by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group in a yearly ritual.

Meet, Ivy Westfall, she belongs the losing side and from the original family and this year she is set to marry Bishop Lattimer.  Bishop is the President's son and soon to be Ivy's husband, but Ivy's mission is not only to marry Bishop, her mission is to kill him and restore the Westfall family to power.

But after Ivy and Bishop marry, Ivy isn't so sure about her mission anymore.  Either Bishop is a very good actor or he isn't the cruel, heartless boy that her family made her to believe.  Slowy, Ivy and Bishop connect and form a relationship and Ivy is afraid of what to think because Bishop is become the only person in the world who truly understands her but her family is pressuring her to move forward with the mission and now doesn't know what do to anymore.  Believe her family and stay committed to a mission she has believed her whole life or stay and believe in the boy she has fallen in love with?

What will Ivy do?

This book?  OMG, I read this book in 2 sittings, that's how good this book was.  I just could not putting it down.  Ivy was everything you wanted on a heroine and more and you keep on cheering for her throughout the whole book.  And Bishop?  AH, he was so???? Ah, no words, he lovely and caring and you just want to protect him, yes that's it.  But the end of the book?  What a freaking cliffhanger.  I remember finishing and going from bookstore to bookstore looking for it and not finding and it was killing me so I just ended up going on Amazon and ordering.  Yeah, I know...CRAZY, right?  Of course I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars and totally recommend you guys to read, so what are you waiting for? GOOOO and get yourself a copy of it. lol  I should mention that the writing was amazing too :)

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Oh this was my very first book by Patrick Ness and I'm really, really happy that I picked and started with this one.  It was an amazing read I truly enjoyed reading it.  Ah...let's review it:

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

A Monster Calls

Conor has been having the same nightmare for a while, ever since his mom started her treatments.  And in it there is this monster but when a monster shows up after midnight the monster is nothing what Conor was expecting.  This monster is different, he feels ancient and wild and he wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor; it wants the truth.

Conor isn't afraid of the monster but he is afraid of what the monster wants and he monster isn't going away until Conor is ready to it to him so the monster tells Conor that he will tell Conor some stories and after a certain number of stories Conor will be ready to tell him the truth.  Conor doesn't think that will happen and he will never tell the monster that kind of truth because he isn't ready now and he will never be ready for that truth.

Will Conor or the monster win?  Well, you just have to read to find out. No spoilers from me but let me tell you something, I went blind to this book and if you don't know yet what this book is about, then don't let yourself get spoiled.  The cover and the title doesn't do justice to what the book is about and the book isn't even that long, it's less than 200 pages so it's such a quick read and the story is lovely and heartbreaking, I will give you that but a great lesson for kids and adults out there.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars and if you have read it yet please do it because you will love it and at least appreciate the story.  Now I cannot wait to read another Patrick Ness book; which one to read next????

Book Review: Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

Time to sit back and review another book and this book is part of a series and a series that it has become a favorite of mine and if you haven't read it yet, you should drop everything and read it.

Let's get to review?  Okay, let's go:

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1)

The Great Libray of Alexandria is present in every major city and it governs the flow of knowledge.  Alchemy allows the Library to deliver the content of the greatest works of history instantly, but the personal ownership of books (actual physical books) is expressly forbidden.

Jess Brightwell believes in the value of the Library, but the majority of his knowlede comes from illegal books obtained by his family, who are involved in the thriving black market (where old and very expensive physical books are traded for money).  Jess is sent to the Library to start his studies; by his family as a spy, but his loyalties are tested in the final months of his training to enter the Library's service.

Jess starts to make friends with the other students during his time at the Library and when one of his best friends commits heresy by creating a device that could change the world, Jess discovers that those who are in control of the Library believe that knowledge is more important and valuable than any human life and soon both heretics and books will burn.

This book?  OMG, I loved...first of all; it's not everyday we get to get a male POV and Jess?  He is an amazing character, I wanted more and more of him.  I felt for him in every single chapter, when he was doing his family's black market work and had to risk his life.  And doing that when he was only a little kid?  And then when he was at the Library studying and proving that he was worth being there?  He is amazing and really, really smart and most importantly a great friend.  And talking about friends, the side characters were amazing as well and I couldn't get enough of them also.  Each of them had a special thing going on, even the teachers and I loved that the author took the time to explain each and everyone of them in detail in just one book.

The end of this book?  A total cliffhanger and I was just glad that I already had the second book in my hand to read when I was finished with this one because I jumped right in.  4 out 5 stars.

Book Review: Saven Deception by Siobhan Davis

Ah, I'm wicked lazy and tired today and nervous.  Why? I'm getting another round of Trigger Point Injections in my head again tomorrow and even though I know that I get relieve in my headaches from them I still dread them.  So, today I'm freaking out and I will be all day like this and will need lots of distractions and this is a good one, right?  I'm going to seat right here and write a book review, a review from a book that I just finished last night and yes, I know usually I do reviews from books that I have finished months ago but this book was really book and I just want to talk about it already and I'm freaking out today so I can do it lol.  And I'm babbled enough so we are going to get to the review now...

Saven Deception by Siobhan Davis

Saven Deception (Saven #1)

Sadie is our main character and she hates her life, the only person she can depend is herself and when she dreams of leaving her current life.  So, when her corrupt government comes up with a new social experiment she signs up for it, because she just wants to get away from the miserable life she currently has.  When she gets chosen to participate in the experiment she couldn't be more happy to spend six months in Thalassic City, the shiny new city under the sea.

During the trial Sadie immediately feels drawn to Logan Chandler, the hot boy with the blue eyes and there is just something that draws her to him no matter what she does to avoid it.  Logan is promised to be what Sadie needs in this experiment, but he isn't all he appears to be but will she be able to handle the truth?

When her best friend Jenna starts to act weird and transform into someone else right in front of her eyes, Sadie stars to become nervous and intrigued about what really is going on in Thalassic City.  Together with newcomer Jarod they start to investigate the true agenda of their government but the truth isn't what she was expecting and is more shocking than anything she could have imagined.

When Sadie comes to terms about the Savens will it be too late to save her heart and the human race?

This book? OMG, expect lots of romance and let me tell you; Siobhan Davis knows how to write just the write amount of romance on her books, you just don't get tired of the romance, you actually start craving for more of it lol.   But don't think that it was all about romance, no because there is more to it, aliens?  What?  Yes, the book is about Aliens walking among us and I'm hooked now and I want to read the other books because I want to know what is going to happen next because the end of this book ended on a very good cliffhanger AH.  Side characters?  Haydn is amazing and I hope to see lots of him in the next book.  Neve?  I really think she is going to be Sadie's BFF and I really think she is a badass.  Jarod?  I hope he remains to be just friends with Sadie because that's the reason I really like him a lot.  Dante?  I just want to kill him already, can one of them do it already?  Ah, what a freaking @#U#!& guy.
And of course there is more going on, and I don't want to spoil the book but be ready for governments been dumb a..es again and there are rebel groups involved and I cannot wait to find out what Sadie is going to choose to do in the next book.  Overall I gave this book 4.5 stars and I'm just ready for the next book.

Weekend Reads: Saven Deception by Siobhan Davis

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend and let's hope for a better weekend, right? :)  I'm ready to enjoy another weekend of boating and sunny days.  I'm taking the kids down the Cape to the boat and we will probably just rest up and soak in all the vitamin D we can get, we may or may not go to the beach, it will depend on how we feel.  But we will be surrounded by friends and family in our boat and marina and we definitely cannot complain.  And I will be bringing my current book with me to read on those moments that I have absolutely nothing to do lol.  Here is my current read:

Saven Deception by Siobhan Davis

I'm almost half way and really, really enjoying this book.  I love Siobhan's writing style and I just want to take my time and enjoy reading her books because I know that at the end there is probably a cliffhanger waiting for me, but no worries, I already have the second book ready to start lol.

What are you guys doing this weekend?  And what are you reading?

Book Review: Soul Crossed by Lisa Gail Green

Time to review another book, let's do this...

Soul Crossed by Lisa Gail Green

Soul Crossed (Of Demons and Angels #1)

First off, Thank You NetGalley for this ebook and allowing me to read and reviewing this book.

We get two POVs in this book, the girl's and the boy's and that is very rare in YA books and I love when we get to know the boy's POV.  Okay, okay, let's get to review already lol.

Josh has always lived a reckless and selfish life and when he dies, escaping the eternal torments of Hell he needs to assume the role of a powerful, soul-corrupting demon and that for him was an easy choice to make.  His first assignment is the soul of mortal Camden who is obsessed with weapons, pain and torture.  So, Josh only needs to get closer to him and get him to commit a crime that will get Camden's soul to the dark side.  Josh thinks that this assignment couldn't be easier, that is until he meets Grace, Cam's beautiful friend.  There is something about her that keeps him distracted...

Grace was always the responsible and good girl growing up and she never expected to die violently at the age of sixteen, but now she is an Angel and responsible for saving a soul.  She needs to save Camden's soul, she can see Cam's flaws and she thinks she can bring him back to the good side, so her job seems pretty easy.  That is until Josh comes along and becomes friends with Cam and gets in her way all the time.  And why does he have to be so handsome?

One thing that is forbidden is for an Angel to be with a Demon, so if Josh and Grace don't stop getting into each other, things can get really disastrous.

I didn't think that I would enjoy this book as much as I did, well I picked this book because Demon and Angel?  It sounded really good, but once I started reading I wasn't so sure I was going to like but a few chapters in and I really was totally into it.  Josh was funny and you couldn't help yourself but like him even though he was a Demon.  Grace?  Even though she was the Angel of the story?  She was the one struggling the most and Oh Man, I felt more sorry for her at times than Josh.  Camden?  I hated him, and I knew that Grace needed to save him but at the same time I just wanted to Josh to get him to go to Hell. AH, he was so frustrating and annoying.  But, I don't want to spoil the story so if you want to know what happened to Camden you have to read the book and find out, but what I can say is it wasn't what I was expecting AT ALL and because of it I enjoyed the book even more.  Josh and Grace's relationship was so cute and I totally loved out everything ended up.

I totally recommend this book and I will continue with this series; I just have to find the time lol.  I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

XOXO,

Nelia

Book Review: The Bad Boy Wants Me by Georgia Le Carre

I forgot to post my book review yesterday, why?  I was tired and lazy, not that great an excuse, right?  Is it Friday yet?  Because I'm still sooo tired today, I just want to go home and watch Netflix lol.

How are you guys feeling this week?  I blame the weather, it's cloudy and raining...bring the sun out again :(

Okay, enough with me complain and back with today's book review and this book?  OH MY, be prepared because it's a HOT one, the weather may not be hot but this book sure it lol

The Bad Boy Wants Me by Georgia Le Carre

The Bad Boy Wants Me

Cash Hunter is the sexiest bad boy Brit in the world and the worst is that he knows it too.  He is tattooed, hot as hell, has a filthy mouth, crude, a womanizer and let's not forget, he is wicked famous.

And Tori has spend her whole life in love with Cash, well since she was 12 years old and started listening to his music.  She became so obsessed and in love with him that know that she is grown she has come up with a plan to fall out of love with him.  She has managed to be hired by his father to be his sister's PA and now that she is living in his father's house she just has to meet him personally and see for herself how awful he is and she will fall out of love with him.  That should be easy, right?  WRONG.

The minute Cash sees Tori he falls hard for her and he makes it known to her that he will not take a no for an answer.  And the worst is when Tori starts to realize that Cash is not so horrible as she thought he would be and instead of falling out of love she is starting to fall harder for him.  But she is keeping a secret that could destroy what they are starting to built and if Cash finds out it could be the end of everything.

Cash cannot get enough of Tori and he doesn't know what is wrong with him.  He is a player, he doesn't chase women, he is usually sleeping with a different one every other night, but for some reason once he gets Tori to say yes to him, he still feels like he cannot get enough of her.  Will it last?  It sure feels like it...and he can't even think about her with anyone else, so this is trouble for sure.

This book?  OMG, be prepared for lots of sex scenes, because Cash and Tori sure cannot get enough of each other and it is all written down in this book.  And also be prepared for a lot of dirty talking, Cash not only is a bad boy he also has a very dirty mouth.  If you like spicy and hot sex scene books, this is the book for you.  I really enjoyed the book, but I felt like there could be a little more to the story line.  I really enjoyed getting to know Cash's little sister and her story line, but it did got resolved pretty quick.  The writing is really easy to read and it flows really well, overall...great writing.  I ended up giving this book 4 out of 5 stars.  Because I enjoyed Georgia's writing I have read another one of her books and I loved that one a lot more (it had a great story line).

Nelia

Book Review: Broken Prince by Erin Watt

Okay let's do this review because I have a lot to say about this book (and the first thing I will say is be prepared for a book hangover because it has been over a week since I read this bad boy and I'm still recuperating from this book hangover lol), but if you haven't read Paper Princess please be aware of spoilers.  And if you want to read my review of Paper Princess click HERE.

 Let's jump right in...

Broken Prince by Erin Watt

Ella ran away and now Reed is freaking out, literally.  He never care about anyone but his family until Ella came along and he has fallen hard for her, really hard and he cannot forgive himself for letting her walking away and not stopping her.  The worst is when he lets his father and brothers know that Ella is gone, all his brothers turn against him, blaming him for Ella running away.

Reed's entire world is falling apart and he has no one else to blame but himself.  But then Ella comes back...Reed thinks that everything will be okay and that he will know how to make things better but he is wrong, so wrong. Ella wants nothing with him, she tells him that they'll will only destroy each other and they are best to stay away from each other.  And the worst is that he thinks she may be right.  But deep down he knows that she's not right, they care for each other and even though he messed up really bad and hurt her, they are right for each other and he is willing to do everything so they can be together.

Ella hates that she is back and there was nothing she could do about it, but she is willing to stay and finish school.  She likes the other Royals and she thinks she can ignore Reed if he leaves her alone, but will Reed leave her alone?  But after been back she realizes that it's hard been around Reed, way much hard than she thought.  She will be able to be resist Reed?

This book, OMG...I didn't think it could be better than the first but I was wrong, so wrong.  In Broken Prince we got to know the Royals so much more, first of all we got Reed's POV and that made a huge difference and wasn't it nice to be inside a Royal head.  Let me calm down a little me over me because I'm already getting red just thinking about the things that Reed says...Oh Man.  These Royals, getting back...we got to know Reed really, really well but we also got to see and get to know more of Easton and he is sweetheart, a broken one that needs a lot of attention and redemption but a sweetheart non less. Gideon, the only thing I have to say about him is what ghosts is he hiding, wait one more thing, what the heck is wrong with him to do that?  (you know what I mean if you have read BP).  The twins, they are the funniest and more laid back of the brothers and even though they share a girl, they probably have a more normal life than any of them.  I know, know, it's not normal to share a girlfriend and it's screwed up but in the Royal's life?  They are more normal than any of them.  Callum, let's talk about Callum...he has won my heart this book but the ending of this book left me so confused and now I don't know what to think of him?  Does he have anything to do with it?  I don't know and I just hope that he doesn't so I can continue to like him.  That's all I want to say about him.  Now Brooke, she is so screwed up and such a mean bitch that I didn't feel bad at all by what happened at the end, does that make me bad?  Maybe, whatever...I guess this is what happens when we spend so much time with the Royals lol.  Dinah, that bitch, because there is no other word for it...AH I don't know if I want to talk about her, I know she has something to do what the ending of BP and what she is doing with Gi?  SO wrong...Now, I just want to mention a couple side characters that I fell in love with this book, Wade and Val.  Seriously, those two are amazing friends and I really hope to see more of them next book.

Okay that's it for this review or more like bragging about it lol.  The only thing left to say is my rating and I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.  Even though the ending was freaking crazy and it's killing me that I have to wait until October to wait for the next book, this book was sooo well written and gave me so many answers and two amazing cliffhangers.

XOXO,

Nelia

Book Review: Paper Princess by Erin Watt

It's time to review another book and OMG this book?  First of all I wouldn't have heard about this book if it wasn't for my Facebook Book Group Novo Squad who was create by author Siobhan Davis (author of the True Calling series, amazing series and I have reviews for all of the books here on my blog).  Anyway, Siobhan asked us if we wanted to do a buddy read for this book and book 2 of this series and of course I jumped into.  Why?  I read the description and it intrigue me right away.  Okay, I'm going to stop and get to the review...let's do this:

Paper Princess by Erin Watt

Paper Princess (The Royals, #1)

Ella Harper has spent her whole life moving from one town to another town with her mother in order to make ends meet and because of her mother's life style.  But she has never complaint and no matter what her mother's life was she knew that her mother loved her.  However after her mother died, Ella is all alone and trying to make ends meet on her own now.  She has faked her mothers signature in order to continue high school and avoid foster care.  She has also taken advantage of her mother's ID to do a job she isn't so proud of but one that gives her enough money to pay for bills and feed her every month.  She is a survivor and the only thing that she wants in life is to finish high school and go to college after and then get a decent job afterwards.

That is until Callum Royal appears and changes her life completely, he takes Ella out of poverty and brings her to his million dollar mansion where is five sons live.  However the minute that Ella walks into the house his five sons decide that Ella is an enemy and decide to hate her and make her life hell.  Not only they want to make her feel miserable but their ultimate goal is to send her back to the slums she came from.

Each Royal is hotter than the last but Reed Royal just takes Ella's breath away, even if she doesn't want to admit, but Reed doesn't want her, he keeps telling her that she doesn't belong with the Royals. Ella fights to find her place at the Royal palace but fight after fight with the Royal brothers she starts to wonder if they are right, doesn't she belong on their life?

But she isn't the only one wondering if she belongs there.  Soon all the Royal brothers start wondering the same.  Is it better having Ella around?

But the Royals are not your typical family, they have more secrets than you can imagine and each one of them are keeping things so deep and dark that maybe they cannot be saved.

This book?  OMG, this book?  Read that's all I'm going to say and if you read something that you don't agree?  Just keep on reading because it gets better and it's really not what you thought it was going to be.  So many secrets, so many things that can happen and that happened.  Each Royal brother can have a book dedicate to him because each of them have so much going on that's not even funny.  And that twist at the end of this book?  It totally killed, I read and had to read that last page a few times because I really didn't believe that it happened.  It had been a very long time since I read a book with an amazing twist like that.  I love these characters a little too much, that's a little absurd, right?

4.5 Stars for this book because I was soooo mad with the twist, don't blame me.  :)

XOXO,

Nelia

I'm not okay with that, with July over, Summer is almost over too and that is NOT okay, right?  AH...Alright, let's check out what I read this month, it wasn't a bad reading month, considering all the fun I have been having this month.  Let's check it out:

Paper Princess (The Royals, #1)

7. Destined for Doon by Carey Corp: 4 Stars-I forgot how cute this series is and yes it's cheezy but that's what you need sometimes and it's summer time and I'm all for cheezy books right now.  Cannot wait to read the next one.

8. Broken Prince by Erin Watt: 5 Stars-Book Hangover #2 of the year, I'm still suffering from it, I cannot stop thinking about these Royals and that ending?  OMG, it's killing ME.  The worst part is that I have to wait until October for the next book, :(  I totally recommend these books, sooooo gooooood.

Broken Prince (The Royals, #2)

9. Blood, Ink and Fire by Ashley Mansour: Currently reading, I started, okay but Broken Prince gave me such a Hangover that I'm so enjoying this one as much as I thought I would so I'm still going to continue with it and see if it gets better.  I'm about 15% into, it's a dystopian book where books and reading is prohibited (what got me intrigued), we will see.

Blood, Ink & Fire

Not bad right, let's see ACOMF is enourmous and it gave a huge book hangover and talking about book hangovers?  Paper Princess and Broken Prince managed to give me another one, this was a month of book hangovers for sure.  But those books were my favorites of the month and just mentioning them I just want to go and re read them all over again and I am not one that re reads books, let me tell you.  AHHHHH I really, really love those books and need the 3rd book of those series now...WHY do these authors do this to us?  Those cliffhangers are killing ME.  AHAHAHA.

What did you read this month?  What were you favorite book/books?

XOXO,

Nelia
