Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS) My Story: 1 Year + Update

Hi everyone, it has been a very long time, actually this is a very well overdue update but also a very hard blog to write as many people with PCS knows.  It has been over a year since my accident (May 2014) and I'm still not 100% and that may be the reason why it has taken me this long to write this update.  Why?  Because it is very frustrating and disappointing, because I really thought that by know I would have been 100% better and here I am: not better.  I'm sad, that's the truth.

I am getting better, let me start with this, because I am not like I was a year ago, so it is a huge improvement;  there are a lot of better days than before, I'm not stuck in bed 24/7 for 5 out of 7 days.  But let me tell you, when I wake up every day there is still a throbbing pain in my head and I ignore it and try to go about my day as a normal person, however by 11am-12noon that pain increases and it's hard to ignore it and it gets hard to concentrate, AH am I making any sense?  I feel like I'm babbling over here.  What I am trying to say is that the headaches are still there everyday, they are not excruciating pains, but they are there.  And at least once or twice a week I still get migraine headaches, so yes I still get those excruciating headaches and yes maybe I should be avoiding a million things so I couldn't get these headaches?  Who knows, but I do want to live or try to live a normal life as possible.  I do have two kids and it's hard when they want to play or even just watch TV with you and you tell them that today it's not okay because your head hurts, but they can lie down with you if they want to and let me tell you they do, but after 15-20 minutes they are gone, lol.  And I don't blame them, one is 12 and the other 6 and they want to play and watch TV and I'm not going to stop them from being kids.  I do Thank God for my parents, they live with me and because of that I am allowed to just go to my room and rest whenever I want to, that's a huge benefit.

And I have to say, my husband is still impressing me everyday, he is still patient with me and takes the time to listen to me and let gives me his shoulder whenever I need to cry on it and I know it's not easy on him either so Thank You honey!!!

So, I just had my Neurologist appointment last week and I got out of there really disappointed,  I went there thinking that I have made some improvements so that would mean that I probably could be taken out of some medications, right?  Wrong!!! I actually got increased on one of my medications and that really got me sad, however I did get one piece of good news, I got the ok to start exercising.  I actually, just went for my first walk  yesterday, I only lasted 20 minutes and I thought I was going to die at the end but I am so glad that I did and I can't wait to do it again and again.

What I want to know, is if this will ever go away 100%?  Will I ever be the same person I was before?

I think I'm going to end right now, because as I right I realize that this is still a very hard subject to right about and sometimes it's just easier to ignore it, right?

XOXO,

Nelia

Book Review: Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins

OMG, guess what? It's Book Review Tuesday and I'm here...lol.  Last week was, what's the word that I'm looking for?  Awful? Horrible? Painful? Well, maybe all those words and plus a few more that it's not even worth mentioning.  But, I'm getting back to feeling a little better so it's time to just look forward and not think about the past, right?

And speaking of looking forward and past, let's talk about today's post and book review:

Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins

This is book 2 in Rebel Belle's trilogy and once I was done reading Rebel Belle I knew that I couldn't wait too long to read this book, so I didn't and I'm so glad in one way but know I have to wait for the 3rd book to come out and it's killing me, I need it NOW.  Ok, ok, let's get back to this review, shall we?  Let's go:

Harper Price's life it's almost back to normal, well at least that's what she thinks when her best friend, Bee comes back after been gone a while.  Harper learns that Bee has been with the Ephors but it kind of seems like they didn't treat her bad at all, which it's kind of weird at first, too weird Harper thinks, but she is just glad she got Bee back and now she can focus on the important things in her life, like school and David (her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-bofriend) and she doesn't even mind competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant too.

However, things are never easy on Harper's life since she became a Paladin and now it's not different at all.  The Ephors are back and now they have decided they want to train David rather than kill him.  And to make things more interesting; they want Harper to come along for the ride, but she can't stay as David's Paladin unless she undergoes an ancient trial that will either make her even more powerful than ever or...Kill her.

But is this ancient trial truly what it really is what the Ephors say what it is?  What kind of trials does Harper have to go thru?

One thing I have to say, this book was not as action pack as the first one, but it still had me glued to it from the first page and left me craving for more once I was finished.  I want that third book and I want it now, I cannot wait to find out what it's going to happen with Harper and David.  And I really love how these books are all about friendships and love in the mix, and let's not forget about this Paladin and predicting the future thing, right?  Well, let's not forget about Rachel Hawkins writing, I love her writing and she is one of my favorite writers for sure.

Do I recommend this book?  Heck yes...I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, I wanted the same amount of action as the first book but I still enjoyed this book.  So, if you haven't started this trilogy, please do yourself a favor and go and read.

XOXO,

Nelia

Weekend Reads: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover and Half Bad by Sally Green

This week, WOW...that's all I'm going to say and it's not a good wow.  It has been a really, really bad week and I'm just glad it's Friday and the weekend is here.  It's not a relaxing weekend, but I'm going to try to squeeze in so rest time because I'm in a desperate need here lol.

But in between trying to rest and going to a birthday party and running around, I do want to finish reading:

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

I started this yesterday I think and it's sooo good and I can't wait to just finish it and see how it ends.

And if I finish this today or tomorrow I will for sure pick up:

Half Bad by Sally Green

It's about time to read a witch book, right?

And that's it for this weekend...what are you reading?

Book Review: Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

Ok, this cold needs to go away now, seriously...one minute I don't feel that bad and the next minute I just want to be under my blankets and not get up at all.  This sucks I mean this feels bad lol

But I'm up right now, so I figured it would be a good time to do a blog post and here I am doing a book review.  And today's book review is:

Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

Rachelle wasn't always like this, when she was fifteen years old she was a good girl, she was her aunt's apprenticed and in training to protect her village from the dark magic.  But Rachelle was reckless too, and because of her recklessness Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice.  After an illicit meeting that goes wrong she is bind to the very evil that she had hoped to defeat one day and therefore she must run away from home.

Fast forward three years and we learn that Rachelle has been given the life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone.  When the king orders order to guard his son Armand, the man she hates most, she forces Armand to help her find the legendary sword that might save their world.

At first things don't go according to plan, Rachelle takes a long time to trust Armand, and Armand does everything she asks of him to earn her trust but after some events Rachelle eventually realizes that she can trust Armand and that he is truly who he says he is.

As the two of them become allies and uncover the hidden magic and conspiracies nothing will stop them, not even a love that may be their undoing.  But will they be able to uncover all the secrets and discover the truth before the endless night?

I really enjoyed reading this book, Rosamund Hodge did it again.  She really knows how to suck you in to these worlds of magic and darkness and lots of action.  I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars, why?  Maybe because I kept comparing the romance between this one and Cruel Beauty and I shouldn't but I did and I felt like there was something missing on this romance.   But overall it was a really great book and I totally recommend it.

Weekend Reads: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

Wow, this has been a bad week.  I have been MIA due to a stupid cold, can we please have Summer back?  This cold is not doing nothing good to me, my throat hurts and I feel just sick and I don't feel like doing absolutely nothing.  I haven't read much this week, I did start to watched the show Arrow and it's AMAZING, there are 3 seasons on Netflix so there are a lot of episodes to catch up to.  And I watched San Andrea's the movie and I loved it; but my hubby now doesn't even want to go visit California so I may have lost a vacation by watching that movie lol.

Now back to what this post is about, here is the book that I'm currently reading, I'm just about half way and it's pretty good so far but I'm waiting for something more, please tell me there is something big coming?

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

And that's all I have my friends, what are you have been up to this week?  And what about this weekend?  What are you doing?

Book Review: Salem's Vengeance by Aaron Galvin

Wow, it's Thursday and I haven't blogged once this week.  Why?  I have no clue, well it could be because life has been really crazy busy lately lol.  But I'm back today with a Book Review, my favorite blog post.  Let's do this, shall we?

And today's book is:

Salem's Vengeance by Aaron Galvin

Sarah Kelly, she is sixteen years old and her and her friends love to dance in the moonlight.  But during one of those dances, they find themselves in a partake of a powder meant to conjure spirits and the results are the worst they could have ever imagine.  They end up meeting the Devil's daughter and because of their presence there, Sarah and her friends are asked for a price to pay.  Can she keep that secret from her family?  From her village?

Sarah has to make a choice, to keep her secret risks her own damnation, but to condemn them may invoke something bigger.  Something that hasn't been around for a very long time, the Salem's witches.  Is it coming back?  Will Sarah be able to save herself and her family?

This book, OMG...every time I read, it scared me.  It was great, spooky a lot of times, action packed and lots of twists, you never knew what was coming.  Loved it.  I really want to read the second one, but I really need to prepare myself.  Do I recommend it?  Totally and it's the perfect book the read this book with Halloween around the cover, so go and grab this book and read it.  A solid 4 out of 5 stars for sure.

What spooky books do you recommend for this time of year?  What are you reading now?

XOXO,

Nelia
